The Path
What We Left
READ MOH IN RED
For this chapter, we simply asked ourselves where we come from.
What it means to return, even briefly, to a place we once left to move forward.
Guangzhou is the hometown of several people behind Read Moh in Red. They left it for Shanghai.
In trying to reconnect, we went back to familiar places that once shaped their everyday life.
Guangzhou is not used here as a backdrop.
It is where part of the team behind Read Moh in Red comes from, a city left quietly in order to build something elsewhere.
Streets, textures and ordinary details that once shaped daily life.
Pan Hao Lun approached the series without trying to overconstruct the image.
His intention was to let something real remain visible: direct, quiet, and untouched by the need to perform beauty.
"I feel authenticity brings me the most powerful shock.
Those real depictions preserved by time strike deep into my heart. They may not be conventionally beautiful, yet they can stir genuine emotions inside you.
It may not fit standard beauty, nor cater to public preference. It is another kind of beauty seen through my eyes.
This kind of beauty is raw and real, existing everywhere in our daily lives.
We seldom slow down to observe it carefully, but it has always been there.
And this is exactly what I want to present through my work."
